About
The 9th annual Ballygarvan Agricultural Show will be held on Saturday 24th Aug 2024. The idea behind the show is to host a fun filled family day to infuse some energy in to the local community.
Last year we had a nice selection of beef cattle, some of which were prize winners at other shows during the season. As we live close to the city, milk production is pertinent, and this year we were delighted to have an increased number of Dairy calves and cows on show.
The pony arena has expanded hugely with the choice of classes, and our recent joining the Irish Pony Society is also proving to be a promoting feature. We were awarded a ISA & Horse Sport Ireland sponsored Youngstock pony class, ( a pony that would be suitable for a child) which attracted entries from as far as Galway.
We are delighted with the increased number in the arts and crafts entries this year. The children in all classes in Ballygarvan National School all did art work and hand writing which are all entered in the programme and displayed on the day. The variety of arts and crafts vary from Lego, Painted stones, art, baking, pots of Jam to the large contribution from the recently formed “Knit & Nat group” who are proud to display their knitting and crochet garments.
All the local groups participate in running the various competitions on the day, Novelty sports and face painting, sampling the displays of our local businesses; admire the vintage vehicles from yester-year, lovingly restored to working order; Dog show, Working sheep dog demonstration,
Cattle show, sheep show, Show jumping, and many other displays.
We also had a very successful show programme (catalogue) this year detail the many exhibits entered, some pictures from our previous shows, along with directory of advertisements from many local businesses. We are hugely grateful to these businesses, to Ballygarvan GAA, and to the Members of the various groups within the community and to the show committe for their contributions as without their financial support and physical support the show could not run.
