About

The 3rd annual Ballygarvan Agricultural Show was held on Saturday 27th Aug 2016. The idea behind the show was to host a fun filled family day to infuse some energy in to the local community.
This year we had a nice selection of beef cattle, some of which were prize winners at other shows during the season.  As we live close to the city, milk production is pertinent, and this year we were delighted to have an increased number of Dairy calves and cows on show.
The poultry section never ceases to amaze everyone, with the variety of breeds, colours, size, shape and sounds that come from the poultry tent. We welcomed a renowned poultry judge from Co. Down to do the judging honors. The pony arena has expanded hugely with the choice of classes, and our recent joining the Irish Pony Society is also proving to be a promoting feature.
We are delighted with the increased number in the arts and crafts entries this year.  The children in all classes in Ballygarvan National School all did art work and hand writing which are all entered in the programme and displayed on the day. The theme this year was “Ballygarvan as I See It ” and these were collected before the end of June. The variety of arts and  crafts vary from Lego, Painted stones, art,  baking, pots of Jam to the large contribution from the recently formed “Knit & Nat group” who are proud to display their knitting and crochet garments.
All the local groups participate in running competitions on the day, whether its the Foróige club with Novelty sports and face painting, to the ladies and gents beet chopping champions, to sampling the displays of our local businesses, or admire the vintage vehicles from yester-year, lovingly restored to working order.
We also had a very successful show programme (available to download here) this year detail the many exhibits entered, some pictures from last years show, along with directory of advertisements from many local businesses. We are hugely grateful to these businesses, and to the Members of the show society, for their contributions as without their  financial support the show could not run.
